NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE VISIBLE

INTERNATIONAL DAY of PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY, 3rd December, 2020.

This year's theme," Not all disabilities are visible" motivates us to spread awareness and understanding of disabilities , not immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain, neurological disorder, cognitive disfunction , even.depression prime cause of disability. The invisible disabilities are of high risk of wellbeing of people specially during the trying time of covid19 pandemic, proves vulnerable as mental health is the indicator of physical well-being. WHO's report on disability makes healthcare professionals concern that 15 percent of the world's population are living with disability.

During covid19 pandemic the people are suffering from anxiety, worry, uncertainty, fear , mental fatigue due to imprisonment within the four walls specially for the elderly people and children bear an impact on health status. The person affected by Corona virus feels loneliness separated from the nearest and dearest ones and at the time of death none will be present , the very thought accelerate the deterioration of the health.

So herein lies the pertinent role of palliative care to treat the person as a whole along with the medical treatment with compassion empathy and Love, to mitigate the total pain physical emotional social and economic and spiritual.

Let us take a pledge to regard the person with disability as HUMAN BEING and to be involved ourselves in spreading awareness. We must not look down upon, rather pay respect and honour to the persons with disabilities, may be called differently abled or special abled, doesn't matter at all.

DREAMS BEFORE THE DYING

Many experience vivid and meaningful dreams and visions just a few days before dying. American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care on studying focus primarily on the perspective of the patient that most dreams are the source of personal comfort, peace, acceptance of death --- a transition from dreaming about living person to dreaming about the dead.      My beloved wife with cancer combated two and a half year with her indomitable spirit and willpower. She left me three years and six months, I still miss her a lot. I was the sole caregiver for her. I was the witness of a many incident, the most interesting is her dream.  1. During her ongoing chemotherapy she frequently dreamt that she was drowning in the river. Oneday she dreamt that she was saved by a small boy from drowning. When she shared I opined that treatment might be responding , a message of recovery. It comforted her, may be the little boy , representative of God. 2. Oneday sh...

Healthy Grieving

#Grief is a normal and natural response to loss, may be the loss of a loved one, may be the loss of dignity, relationship, loss of pet, loss of employment and so on.        I myself try to follow #healthygrieving not indulging in to be entangled by #unhealthygrieving , still sometimes specially in the blank evening ( no webinar, no online class) I yearn for her presence and what I do you know -- either I take a novel or story book and start concentrating in the story, or listen to music, the two were liked by my heart( wife) who is present in absence. In such a manner I transform negative unhealthy grieving to a positive healthy grieving. Today after the webinar and dinner, I am urged to pen my feelings which is the proper way of healing, sharing to you all, my friends.#Sharing_is_healing. Grieving is neither forgetting, nor drowning in the pool of tears. Grieving is the process of healing pain , of course, unique to every individual how to cope with. So I opine on m...

LIVING WILL Advanced Medical Directives

On 18th January,2023 the Supreme Court passed final judgment on the "Living Will", Advance Medical Directive, on agreeing to modify its 2018 guidelines on "Living Will" , an Advance Medical Directive on end of life treatment. The judgment recognised that a terminally ill incurable patient can refuse the medical treatment undergoing life support like ventilation holding the right to live with dignity and smoothening the process of natural dying in a peaceful transition of the soul from one consciousness to another consciousness.             I have been privileged to volunteer in the field of Palliative Care since my beloved wife with metastatic cancer had left me behind. I have realised and can feel the suffering and pain of a person in a ventilator or a life support machine consequently the process of dying not in a peaceful dignified manner. This motivates me to have legal procedure of preparing "Living Will", an Advance Medical Directive. In this pr...
