On this very auspicious day mind goes beyond control. The preaching of Swami Vivekananda with special reference to religion and spirituality for the sake of mankind to treat a person as a whole serving humanity , motivating all to walk along the right path to seek happiness within self and make others happy with our compassionate heart. If I go deep down to the Ocean of Palliative Care, I can connect this with the philosophical thoughts of Swami Vivekananda.
" Illness is a spiritual event. It grasps persons by the soul and by the body and disturbs them both. It raises troubling questions of a transcendental nature...... about meaning, value and relationship."
       Daniel P Sulmasy, Academic Medicine.
Spiritual relationship is the relationship of love , unconditional eternal love sometimes warm , sometimes cold in a waxing and waning manner. Spirituality in a broader concept is a belief sometimes beyond the self. It may center round the God , may strive to answer, " what's the meaning of life?" Sometimes enjoying nature is a spiritual experience. I can recall the days when we two (I and my wife) enjoyed the moonlit snow peaks of Kedarnath ignoring the severe cold outside the room standing on the rocky platform. The full moon kissing the Tso Moriri lake in Ladakh. Music also leads to the spiritual feeling in case of my wife who during cancer treatment used to listen to her favourite songs and oneday she wrote in her diary ," music is God" , one can meet the Almighty through music, this is the spirituality. Children find happiness and solace through the painting and art expressing   own feelings during the treatment which also heals the pain specially mental, not knowing the happiness is connected with the spirituality.
Spirituality is unique to each one , each culture, each religion. Humanism , a philosophy stresses the importance of human values and dignity --- the main theme of Palliative Care and the preaching of Swami Vivekananda which today we take a vow to follow and be human being with compassionate heart to dedicate ourselves in the service of mankind in need to provide comfort to the patients. We the Palliative Care volunteers visit homes of the persons who face immobility to come to the hospital, check the status of the health, distribute medicine, chat with the patient in good communicative skills that he /she presents us a gift" Smile" . Without Home Care visit Palliative Care is incomplete.
   Oneness of divinity.

DREAMS BEFORE THE DYING

Many experience vivid and meaningful dreams and visions just a few days before dying. American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care on studying focus primarily on the perspective of the patient that most dreams are the source of personal comfort, peace, acceptance of death --- a transition from dreaming about living person to dreaming about the dead.      My beloved wife with cancer combated two and a half year with her indomitable spirit and willpower. She left me three years and six months, I still miss her a lot. I was the sole caregiver for her. I was the witness of a many incident, the most interesting is her dream.  1. During her ongoing chemotherapy she frequently dreamt that she was drowning in the river. Oneday she dreamt that she was saved by a small boy from drowning. When she shared I opined that treatment might be responding , a message of recovery. It comforted her, may be the little boy , representative of God. 2. Oneday sh...

Healthy Grieving

#Grief is a normal and natural response to loss, may be the loss of a loved one, may be the loss of dignity, relationship, loss of pet, loss of employment and so on.        I myself try to follow #healthygrieving not indulging in to be entangled by #unhealthygrieving , still sometimes specially in the blank evening ( no webinar, no online class) I yearn for her presence and what I do you know -- either I take a novel or story book and start concentrating in the story, or listen to music, the two were liked by my heart( wife) who is present in absence. In such a manner I transform negative unhealthy grieving to a positive healthy grieving. Today after the webinar and dinner, I am urged to pen my feelings which is the proper way of healing, sharing to you all, my friends.#Sharing_is_healing. Grieving is neither forgetting, nor drowning in the pool of tears. Grieving is the process of healing pain , of course, unique to every individual how to cope with. So I opine on m...

LIVING WILL Advanced Medical Directives

On 18th January,2023 the Supreme Court passed final judgment on the "Living Will", Advance Medical Directive, on agreeing to modify its 2018 guidelines on "Living Will" , an Advance Medical Directive on end of life treatment. The judgment recognised that a terminally ill incurable patient can refuse the medical treatment undergoing life support like ventilation holding the right to live with dignity and smoothening the process of natural dying in a peaceful transition of the soul from one consciousness to another consciousness.             I have been privileged to volunteer in the field of Palliative Care since my beloved wife with metastatic cancer had left me behind. I have realised and can feel the suffering and pain of a person in a ventilator or a life support machine consequently the process of dying not in a peaceful dignified manner. This motivates me to have legal procedure of preparing "Living Will", an Advance Medical Directive. In this pr...
